Applegate Trail Also known as the Southern Road, the Applegate Trail was opened in 1846 as an alternate way for emmigrants reaching the western valleys of Oregon. Some of the special attractions that can be found on this trail include Canyon Creek, Dole Road and the Charles Applegate House. |

Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail Running through California, Oregon and Washington, the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is known for its scenic views, ranging terrains and changes in elevation as it connects Mexico and Canada. Try a small section for a day trip or spend the season crossing the nation by foot or by horse. Spanning 2,650 mi (4,240 km) the PCT does not permit motorized vehicle use and permits are required. Those making it across the entire trail will cross 60 major mountain passes, go through 19 canyons, pass more than 1,000 lakes and wander through seven national parks.
